Are you an Internist looking to add rural or remote medicine to your work experience? Are you intrigued by the idea of five-minute work commutes and wilderness adventures just outside your door? Does a salaried contract with benefits and without the hassles of a fee-for-service practice appeal to you? Then the Northwest Territories may be the perfect fit for you!
Stanton Territorial Hospital is seeking permanent (full-time) and locum general Internists to join our fabulous team. The Northwest Territories offers a unique salaried contract for one, two, or three years or 1-week+ locums for the opportunity to experience a true work/life balance.
Why the Northwest Territories?
Located above the 60th parallel, the Northwest Territories awaits with seemingly endless lakes and unmatched vistas. The opportunities available in our communities are perfect for the outdoors enthusiast looking for adventure, a healthy work/life balance, and an escape from the hustle of the big city.
Home to the Capital City of the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife is a captivating mix of city life and untamed wilderness. Fully stocked with the essential businesses and services of a southern city, Yellowknife also embraces its quirky northern roots with colourful houseboats, world famous fish shacks and houses springing up from the rocks.
About the Work
Our Internal Medicine service provides 24/7 coverage to the Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH), and telephone support to GPs throughout the NWT and Kitikmeot region of Nunavut. The on-call Internist covers ER consults, the ICU, and inpatient consults.
At the hospital there is a 25 bed Medicine Unit and 4 bed ICU. Patients with higher acuity are transferred to Edmonton for care. Visiting subspecialists come to Yellowknife and provide consultation including Rheumatology, Neurology, Nephrology, and GI.
Our outpatient clinic is also located in the hospital, where the IM service provides consultations for a wide variety of presentations. Our IM service performs stress tests, Holter monitors, and some minor procedures in clinic.
We do have travel clinic opportunities in both the NWT and Nunavut for a clinician willing to provide endoscopies, echocardiography, or pacemaker interrogation (Permanent Physicians or recurrent locums).
Typically, these positions require FRCSC certification and must be eligible for licensure to practice in the NWT.
