We are currently looking for permanent and locum Family Practitioners to join our staff. he Dehcho region of the Northwest Territories provides health care services from the town of Fort Simpson. It is a proud and welcoming community that will enhance the skills of a comprehensive Family Practitioner. Come to the Dehcho and explore our big mountains and big waters!
The Fort Simpson health centre is equipped with 2 acute care rooms and five clinic rooms. Our Family Physicians fly to the surrounding communities of Nahanni Butte, Wrigley, Samba K’e, and Fort Liard on a weekly basis. Physician travel by highway to the tranquil settlement of Jean Marie River to see patients in the health cabin! Visiting specialists come to the Dehcho which include: ENT/Audiology, Gynecology, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy, and the Eye team. All urgent referrals are handled immediately by patching through to the specialist on call in Yellowknife.
Fort Simpson is the gateway to the Nahanni National Park which is renowned for its remoteness and host to mountains, rivers, and the Virginia Falls (twice the height of Niagara Falls). Whereas much of the NWT is continental shield, or tundra, the Dehcho is certainly lush, vast, and grand. Your daily adventures would include golfing, biking, hiking, paddling, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and other wildlife adventures. The Northwest Territories (NWT) is home to approximately 43,000 people in 33 communities across a landscape of over 1.34 million square kilometers. Located above the 60th parallel, the Northwest Territories awaits with seemingly endless lakes and unmatched vistas. The Dehcho region is located in the southwest corner of the NWT, bordering British Columbia and the Yukon, with a population of approximately 3,400 people in nine communities. The Region has a diverse geography and includes some of the NWT’s most spectacular tourism attractions - the Nahanni River, Virginia Falls, Trout River, and the Mackenzie Mountains! Fun Facts About the Dehcho Region & NWT • Dehcho means “big river” which is the Dene name for the Mackenzie River. • Nahanni National Park Reserve, became one of the earliest UNESCO world heritage sites to be inscribed back in 1978. • The Park stretches across 30,000 square kilometers. • Rabbitkettle Tufa Mound – the largest tufa mound in Canada can be found in the Nahanni National Park. Take a barefoot guided tour on the 10,000-year-old delicate tufa mounds formed by thermal springs. • Northern Lights are visible 240 days each year in the NWT. Adventurers come from far and wide to climb the Cirque of the Unclimbables, complete epic river adventures through traditional Dene land, take in the expansive Virginia Falls, vast canyons, or to trek along unspoiled wilderness. Fort Simpson is the largest community and the hub for the region. Fort Simpson has daily flights from Yellowknife and is accessible by highway from Yellowknife, Alberta, and British Columbia for a scenic route. Fort Simpson is known for being friendly, and for the traditional crafts available in the area. In town you will find grocery stores, restaurants (including renowned Chinese cuisine), hotels, recreation centre, shops, a baseball diamond, and an amazing golf course!

- Locums can be as short as 1 week-1 year!
- A guaranteed daily rate for scheduled shifts
- Travel stipend
- Accommodations and travel arranged by the health authority on your behalf
- Eligibility to bring a guest through our Friends & Family Travel program by working 5 shifts during December 20, 2025, and January 4, 2026. We’ll reimburse you up to $2000 to bring a guest by January 31st.
