Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Department Chief oversees the quality of care provided by department members. The role involves working closely with medical leadership, hospital leaders, and various health system partners to fulfill the department's mission, objectives, and strategic initiatives.

Additionally, 2.5 days per week will be dedicated to Department Chief responsibilities and portfolio management.

Serving Northwestern Ontario

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre serves the Northwestern Ontario region, from White River to the Manitoba border and from Hudson Bay to the US border. It is the only acute care hospital in the City of Thunder Bay and operates one of the busiest emergency departments in Canada. As the only tertiary hospital in the region, the hospital also plays a crucial role as a referral center for 10 smaller hospitals. Our commitment to meeting the distinctive healthcare needs of our region truly sets us apart from the rest.

Research Will Transform the Future of Health Care

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute is distinct. Until very recently, health research facilities of this calibre would be housed in a major metropolitan centre. Indeed, our scientists found that Thunder Bay’s size and status as a regional hub has tremendous advantages, particularly access to collaborators. We are able to focus our research to address the health care challenges unique to our region.

Academics & Learning

Our hospital values the crucial role that learners play in our institution and is dedicated to shaping future health care professionals through partnerships with academic institutions like the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University. With a state-of-the-art Simulation Centre, practitioners can enhance their expertise in a secure and supervised setting.

Living in Thunder Bay

In addition to working at a worldclass academic healthcare facility, you also have the city of Thunder Bay and surrounding area at your at your back door. We are known for our access to the outdoors: hiking, fishing, camping, snowshoeing, skiing; we have it all! For more information, please visit:
