Job Description

MEDICAL PHYSICIAN – Orchard Villa LTC We are currently posting the above position of Medical Physician for this 233-bed managed nursing home located in Pickering, ON. This Home features a supportive team of nursing, dietary, activation and administrative staff with a holistic approach to individualized resident care in a clean and well-maintained environment. About the role: 1.1 As Medical Physician you will be required to support the following "Administrative Services": (a) to direct and organize the Facility's Physician’s services as required by applicable legislation and Facility policies, including but not limited to the areas of medical service provision, administration and education; (b) to provide advice and be accountable for the areas of administrative medical services and policies in the Facility, including contributing to the: (i) development, implementation and evaluation of medical services, (ii) annual review of the medical policies, (iii) preparation of an annual report summarizing the strengths and areas of concern within the medical services program, (iv) quality assurance/improvement activities and processes, (v) involvement in Facility-wide issues, such as infectious disease outbreak management, and (vi) participation in the process to develop the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of the Facility; (c) to provide advice to the Board of Directors/Owners/Administrator of the Facility on matters pertaining to medical care and services; (d) to actively participate as a member of the following Facility committees: (i) Infection Control (ii) Professional Advisory (iii) Health Records; And shall make himself or herself available to attend such other committees as mutually agreed upon between the Medical Director and the Administrator; (e) to be committed to continuing medical education and maintaining current knowledge and practice in geriatrics and gerontology; (f) to visit the Facility regularly, at least once per week in order to carry out his or her responsibilities under this agreement; (g) to complete all forms pertaining to the medical services program as required; (h) to advise the Administrator, in co-operation with the Medical Officer of Health, of the steps to be taken in the event of an outbreak of communicable disease; (i) to participate in the review of Placement Co-ordination Service applications; (j) to be involved in resident issues that may put other residents, staff or visitors at risk; (k) to assist in staff development as required and as jointly negotiated with the Administrator or his or her designate; (l) to participate in in-service education programs each year; (m) to provide medical liaison with local hospital(s) and other appropriate health care organizations or facilities; (n) to sign an Attending Physician's Agreement (o) to provide such other services in relation to the provision of medical services in the Facility that are reasonably required, and which are jointly agreed upon by the Medical Director and the Administrator. (p) advise the Facility on emergency medical services for residents (q) to participate in care conferences for residents The Home’s administration provides a monthly stipend, enhanced remuneration package and assists with providing the Health Card Numbers and other administrative support.

Job Requirements

The Physician covenants that he or she shall perform the services under this agreement in accordance with such standards of professional ethics and practice as may be reasonably expected from a physician licensed by the College to practice in the Province of Ontario. All Applicants must be currently registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons.
