Job Description

The Central Ottawa Family Medicine Associates (COFMA), an award-winning, dynamic and collegial primary care practice recognized as a leader in innovative, evidence-based care, are seeking a new associate to assume the practice of a colleague who will be retiring from our practice shortly.

Founded in 2002, COFMA’s declared mission is to create a practice environment that provides the highest quality of care and service for the patient and the best possible professional satisfaction for the physicians, nurses and staff. We strive to be a practice recognized as a model for Canadian primary care.

We pursue our mission in several ways. We run a highly efficient office with excellent colleague, nursing and administrative staff support. Because healthcare is an information-intensive enterprise, we have worked hard to become highly skilled users of the Telus PS Suite EMR, which dramatically enhances our ability to reliably apply best practice standards to patients at the individual and population level.

As a Family Health Organization (FHO) with a high proportion of our patients rostered to our practices, we are able to be well-remunerated while working at a reasonable pace and offering ourselves maximal flexibility in our work arrangements. To continuously improve our care, the associates meet regularly for self-directed CME activity that focuses on evaluating the latest evidence and applying it uniformly to our day-to-day practices with the help of our EMR. Most importantly, we place great value on a collaborative, cooperative and friendly work environment.

In order to assure continuing patient care we require the new associate to assume our retiring colleague’s five half-day per week practice. We also have space for the new associate to work additional half-days serving new patients or patients from an existing practice. COFMA commits itself to ensuring our new colleagues success and will provide strong support to the incoming associate during the transition into our practice.

COFMA is structured as an associate-owned organization and new associates must invest in the practice equally with existing associates; we do not accept tenants who simply pay a percentage of their earnings as rent. However, for the right individual, the investment will easily repay itself, both financially and in professional satisfaction.
