Job Description

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is one of the largest Academic Health Science Centres in Canada, affiliated with the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. TOH is currently seeking a Department Head, Family Practice

The Ottawa Hospital Department of Family Practice was created in 1998 by the merger of the Departments of Family Medicine of the Riverside, General, Civic, and Grace Hospitals as part of the HSRC directed restructuring of Ottawa’s hospitals. Members of the department work at all three TOH campuses providing inpatient and outpatient services.

The department is closely affiliated with the University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine residency program both in the community and in the hospital.

Job Requirements

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Department Head is a seasoned leader who can direct the effective delivery of clinical services, academic performance and research in alignment with the mission, vision, values, policies and objectives of The Ottawa Hospital. 

As an ideal candidate, you have:

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • An outstanding record in patient care, teaching, academic leadership and research,
  • An accomplished clinician who holds certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or an equivalent
  • A university rank of Associate or Full Professor
  • Eligible for licensure in Ontario; and
  • An ability to communicate in a bilingual environment (French & English) is preferred
