Part time permanent positions available (flexible hours)

Unison Health & Community Services - New Oakwood-Vaughan Clinic

Available Shifts:

Mondays in Primary Care 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Wednesdays in Primary Care 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Thursdays in Youth Clinic 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Saturdays in Primary Care 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Saturdays in Youth Clinic 1:00 to 4:30 pm

Unison Health and Community Services is a non-profit, community-based organization that serves neighbourhoods in North West Toronto. Operating out of five locations (soon to be six), Unison offers core services that include primary health care, counselling, health promotion, Early Years programs, legal services, harm reduction programs, housing assistance, adult protective services, Pathways to Education and a Diabetes Education program.

Unison’s mission is working together to deliver accessible and high quality health and community services that are integrated, respond to needs, build on strengths and inspire change.

We are dedicated to providing high quality health care and community services and programs, with a focus on priority populations in North West Toronto.

We are working from an inclusive, sex positive, harm reduction, anti-racist, pro-choice, anti-oppression, and participatory framework in addressing the issue of access to health care for our mandated priority populations encompassing all the determinants of health.

Unison is preparing to open a sixth site in the community of Oakwood-Vaughan.  The satellite will offer primary care and youth specific mental health, addictions and sexual health services.

Reporting to the Clinical and Allied Health Site Manager for Lawrence Heights and Oakwood Vaughan, and with direction from the Clinic Coordinator, Unison is seeking Community Health Physician(s) to work in either the Primary Health Care Clinic or the Youth Clinic, or both.

The Primary Care Clinic Physician will provide primary care to clients and their families within a multi-disciplinary, collaborative care model that emphasizes health promotion and client education.

The Youth Clinic Physician will provide walk-in health care to youth in areas of sexual and reproductive health including trans care, and mental health and addictions.

 

Job Requirements

The successful Primary Care Physician candidate will have:

  • License to practice medicine and membership in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Availability to work one or more of the shifts listed
  • Demonstrated experience in community-based primary care settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the impact of social, economic, environmental and cultural issues on health
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team of clinical and program staff
  • Ability to do venipuncture
  • Experience serving Unison’s priority populations (seniors with complex needs, people with mental health and addictions, LGBTTQ2+, and youth facing barriers) an asset
  • Commitment to working from a harm reduction, community development perspective
  • Ability to speak a second language an asset.

 The successful Youth Clinic Physician candidate will have:

  • License to practice medicine and membership in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario;
  • Availability to work one or more of the shifts listed  
  • Demonstrated experience in community-based primary care settings that focus on youth
  • Ability to manage all aspects of reproductive health including insertion and removal of IUDs
  • Prescribe relevant medications and provide follow up care to clients requesting medical abortions
  • Ability to provide hormone therapy to trans clients
  • Ability to do venipuncture or be prepared to learn
  • Experience working as primary liaison for consultation with the Nurse Practitioner in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of clients
  • Maintain professional development related to youth, general healthy sexuality and related specific job responsibility issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the impact of social, economic, environmental and cultural issues on the health of marginalized youth
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team of clinical and program staff
  • Commitment to pro-choice philosophy
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity goals and principles, to sexual and reproductive rights, to being youth positive, LGBTTQ2+ positive and sex positive and to being inclusive of diverse sexual and gender identities
  • Commitment to working from a harm reduction, community development perspective
  • Ability to speak a second language an asset.
